As we slowly transition from down jackets to windbreakers, boots to open toes, and replace our winter Timbs with, of course, another pair of Timbs, we’re getting closer and closer to the historic NYC concert that we’ve all be all been waiting for, Summer Jam.
The hip-hop show that started it all is turning 25 this year, and marking the unofficial start of summer, it wouldn’t be complete without the bruk down beats of Reggae Dancehall.
Check out the amazing line up of artists that will be hitting the SJ stage this year, on June 10th, with the legendary mixers Bobby Konders & Jabba:
Fun Fact: Sheldon Lawrence moved to the U.S. with his dad after being expelled from high school, in Jamaica. His first job in America was at FedEx. He decided to pursue his first love, music, and never looked back.
Fun Fact: Kemar Donaldson, relocated from Jamaica to Florida, at age 12, and learned everything he knows about music from his uncle Screwdriver, a former Dancehall star. “I used to go there every weekend, and this man taught me everything. I learned about breath control. I watched him play piano, guitar, saxophone, and flute.” Kemar later relocated to Queens, NY, after graduating from his uncle’s music academy.
Fun Fact: Jamaican born, Tina Pinnock, who moved to the Bronx at the age of 12, played the violin in high school. Venturing on to the genres of trap/reggae, she put out a few songs and got her big break when a fan of her music, Cardi B, shared her song and the rest is history.
Fun Fact: Garfield Spence was originally a member of the Reggae duo, Sojah, which included his brother Delmark Spence. The group was so popular in Japan, that it was the first country they ever toured and ultimately ended up releasing a Japan-only Sons of Jah album.
Vibe out and burn a spliff as they bring di fya tunes to the hottest concert of the summer!
