2020 was a crazy year. From the modern-day global civil rights movement to the worldwide pandemic that disrupted everyone’s life.

In between the madness, some dope viral moments happened! Take a look:

Beefs/Long Feuds squashed

Can we see more of this in 2021? Verzuz battles created opportunities for us to see some of our favorites who have a long history of “beef” put their differences to the side. The Brandy/Monica plus the Gucci Mane and Jeezy Verzuz was a dope look for the culture and both battles made history, bringing in millions of viewers! Brandy and Monica had 1.8 million views, but the guys had 9.1 million.

Other legendary hip hop beefs were also put to rest like French Montana/Jim Jones and 50 Cent/Rick Ross. Even seemingly 50 Cent and The Game, who both feel they should battle each other in Verzuz. These bold moves will have a positive impact on the culture as we’ve lost too many of our hip hop treasures to unnecessary gun violence.

Surprise drops

When J Cole surprise dropped “Snow On The Bluff” and No Name responded with “Song 33.”

Tik Tok challenges

While the world was on lockdown, Tik Tok challenges  became everyone’s go-to for some entertainment. Some of the top challenges include “Don’t Rush,” “Flip The Switch“, “Savage,” and “Cry Baby.”

Politics

Kanye West running for President

An obvious viral moment was Kamala Harris becoming our first black female and the first Asian American woman to be a major-party vice president-elect. But rewind a few weeks back to the VP debate where a fly landed on Mike Pence’s head and sat there for a good two minutes.

Black Lives Matter

WE STAN with Keiajah Brooks, who spoke words of POWER and said everything that needed to be said.

Beyoncé dedicated an entire album to celebrate black art/talent, Black Is King. It debuted on Disney and the story focused on traced a young man’s journey to self-discovery, with a focus on Black history and African traditions. This was beautiful to see after witnessing the modern-day lynching of George Floyd, and all of the black lives that were murdered for no reason.

Hip hop’s overall response to the unjust murder of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmad Arbery, and more.

Unexpected Twists of 2020

Jada Pinkett-Smith took HERSELF to the red table! She admitted to having an entanglement with August Alsina while married (separated) from Will Smith.
