As the global crisis continues, some states are figuring out how to adjust to the “new normal,” until more information is discovered about COVID-19.
Many states like Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and more have reopened their economy, but each state has their own set of social distancing rules to follow. The Tristate area is slowly making changes as well.
In Connecticut, the stay-at-home order is set to expire on May 20. Gatherings of more than five people are not allowed, restaurants and bars are only open for take-out, and movie theaters, salons, and gyms will remain closed. Gov. Ned Lamont said that if there’s a 14-day decline of hospitalizations, “Connecticut could move to begin to reopen its economy,” as early as May 20. The first phase will include businesses such as restaurants, offices, salons, retailers and outdoor museums and zoos to open. Establishments will have to have social distancing and sanitation practices in place.
New York’s “on-pause” order remains in place until May 15, with restaurants still operating through take-out only. Gyms will remain closed and social distancing restrictions are being enforced. Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s “New York Forward” plan will be in four phases. In order for regions to move into phase 1, they must have a decline in hospitalizations.
The first phase which is expected to begin on May 15, includes construction, manufacturing, and retail for curbside pickup. It will also allow agriculture, fishing, and forestry. Phase 2 includes professional services, such as finance, insurance, retail, administrative support, and real estate businesses to reopen. Phase 3 includes restaurants and foodservice, and the last one, Phase 4, is opening the remaining arts, entertainment, recreation, and educational sectors, ABC reports.
New Jersey’s stay-at-home order remains until further notice. Gov. Phil Murphy announced “The Road Back: Restoring Economic Health through Public Health” reopening plan in April. As public health goals are achieved, like a two consecutive week decline in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, then the reopening process will begin. Restaurants can operate for take-out only still and social distancing measures are still in place. No official date has been set but Gov. Murphy reopened beaches and state parks with social distancing restrictions.
