According To Juicy J, The Real Reason Three 6 Mafia Broke Up Was Due To Excessive Drug Use

Three 6 Mafia

Juicy J. is speaking out about why Three 6 Mafia stopped being a group.

The rapper appeared on Nas and Miss Info’s new podcast, The Bridge: 50 Years of Hip Hop. During the conversation, Juicy J. shared his opinion on the fall of Three 6 Mafia. According to him, heavy hard drug use played a significant role in the group breaking up. Juicy J said, “drugs really broke Three 6 Mafia up.” Then Nas asked which ones, and Juicy J. replied,

“From heroin to meth to cocaine, all kinds of pills. A lot of drugs were consumed during the times we were together. When everybody was sober and shit, [everybody was] on the same page. But when cocaine’s involved, things change. But I’m not pointing a figure at nobody.” The producer/rapper continued,

“A lot of drugs were consumed during the times we were together. When everybody was sober and sh*t, [everybody was] on the same page. But when cocaine’s involved, things change. But I’m not [pointing the finger] at nobody.”

The influential group was made up of Juicy J, DJ Paul, Gangsta Boo, and Crunchy Black, plus the late rappers Lord Infamous and Koopsta Knicca. Throughout their career, the pumped out hits like “Slob On My Knob,” “Stay Fly,” “Sipping On Syrup,” and more. Their album, When the Smoke Clears: Sixty 6 is platinum. In 2006, Juicy J and DJ Paul won an Academy Award for “It’s Hard out Here for a Pimp” from Hustle & Flow.

The group never really “broke up,” everyone started doing their own thing. In 2011, Juicy J signed with Wiz Khalifa, and some members began releasing solo material.

The southern collective is in the next Verzuz going down Thursday, December 3. They’re going up against Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, in Los Angeles, live. Will you be tuned in?
