Our guy DJ Drewski is taking a stance on gang/gun violence after the recent killings in NYC.
Earlier this week, Brooklyn Drill rapper Nas Blixky was shot in the head, and fellow Brooklynite Tdott Woo was fatally shot yesterday (February 1). TDott is a close associate of Fivio Foreign and the late Pop Smoke, who was also gunned down in Los Angeles on February 19, 2020.
Drewski, a major supporter and the pulse of the drill scene, vowed not to play diss/gang records on the radio. On his Instagram story, he wrote,
“I’m not supporting no more diss/gang music! If ya dissing each other in the songs, don’t even send it to me! I don’t care if the artist sends it, the label sends it, your big Homie sends it! I will not support or play anymore Diss/Gang records on the radio! We r losing too many young men and women to the streets!”
He continued, “If you make drill music, there are a lot of drill songs without dissing your opps or smoking your opps! Step up your pen game and creativity. No reason why every week someone is getting locked up or killed. I can’t change the world, but I can stop supporting the nonsense. I admit I’m a fan of the drill records and supported from the beginning. But it’s only getting worse. SMH.”
Last year, BK drill rapper 22Gz shocked fans when he told our guy Ebro on Apple Music 1 that he was open to ending his longstanding feud with Sheff G and Drewski played a major role. Drewski spoke with Hip Hop DX in 2021 and said, “Their beef helped their music because the kids in Brooklyn was so in love with their feud that they had essentially created this new type of drill music.” He continued,
“I got good hopes they can put that to rest, and I like to take credit too for that talk coming out. I put out on social media who started New York drill, and it started going crazy because everyone’s saying this person or that person. So what I did is, I had a bunch of the originators join me on Instagram Live, and we sat down and spoke about it.”
21 other rappers were killed last year, including Slim 400, Ohio rapper Boog The Bandit, Lil Durk’s brother OTF DThang and Outlawz affiliate Gonzo.
