Sometimes when marriages come to an end, it’s not always pretty!
That’s the case with Dr. Dre and his estranged wife of 24 years.
In the latest update, Dr. Dre is fighting back in court against Nicole’s request to have ownership over the producer’s trademarked name, Dr. Dre, in addition to the trademark for The Chronic. Dre is asking the courts to shut her claims down, according to court documents obtained by The Blast.
Nicole filed the request back in August. She accused Dre of transferring the rights to the trademarks into a new company only owned by him. Nicole believes this is an attempt to hide their community property, the article reports.
In the new documents, Dre came through swinging! Dre’s lawyer wrote,
“Plaintiff Nicole Young, after commencing divorce proceedings against Defendant Andre Young, seeking over $400 Million, then stealing almost $400,000.00 from an LLC that funds Defendant Young’s recording studio, draining its entire bank account, Plaintiff has decided that $400,400,000.00 and one lawsuit are not enough. She is now suing Defendant Young and another LLC in a separate lawsuit, having the temerity to claim that trademarks to Defendant Young’s performing name, “Dr. Dre,” and to his first solo album, entitled “The Chronic,” have been unlawfully transferred from Defendant Young to his wholly-owned LLC.”
Nicole claims Dr. Dre didn’t file to trademark his name until 1997, a year after they got married. The Chronic was released four years after they tied the knot. Dr. Dre says his name is a trademark name he used for over 10 years even before meeting Nicole.
Hopefully, the courts can settle everything!
