A new show is on the way!

As reported on Hip Hop Wired, Issa Rae is launching a new series on HBO Max called Rap Sh*t. The show will be co-executive produced by The City Girls.

The eight-episode show will be about two estranged friends in Miami who met in high school and form a rap group. This is similar to the City Girls’ story, which is why they were asked to be on this project.

Other people working on the show is Syreeta Singleton, who will serve as the executive producer and showrunner. Montrel McKay, who worked on A Black Lady Sketch Show and Road Trippp, will also EP. Jonathan Berry and Dave Becky of 3 Arts Entertainment will co-write the pilot with Singleton and Rae.

Yung Miami and JT will share their co-EP duties with their Quality Control label heads Kevin “Coach K” Lee and Pierre “P” Thomas. Rae’s audio content brand, Raedio, will take care of the music on the show.

THR notes casting is underway and production is set to start this summer.
