Jada Pinkett-Smith opens up about her childhood trauma on the latest episode of ‘Red Table Talk.’

Jada mentions that due to her daughter, Willow, opening up about her battle with anxiety- she realized that she too has the same struggles. “It took me a long time to understand Willow. I mean, just her anxiety. I had a really difficult time relating, because, two things — her lifestyle and how she was brought up very different than mine — I don’t know what it’s like to be a child under hot lights.”

She continued, “and then just, really not knowing how to comfort her, not knowing what help she needed, not understanding the behavior.” During the episode, trauma psychotherapist Kelly McDaniel, joins the crew. She reveals her “groundbreaking approach to understanding how our relationship with our mothers affects all aspects of our mental health and well being. Her book Mother Hunger has offered me potent nourishment for my heart and soul which is easing my hurts and granting me more compassion for myself and others.”
