We live in a cancel culture where if “society” doesn’t agree with something, they not rocking with it.

That’s what happened to the Netflix award-winning French film Cuties last month.

#CancelNetflix was trending online after the release of Cuties, a film about a young girl who comes from a strict family but she’s fascinated with twerking dance crew. Some people did not like the film because they felt it over-sexualized/exploited young children. Some of the content warnings include an 11-year-old watching naked women and partake in lesbian acts. There’s also female breast nudity and a scene where an 11-year-old’s pants are pulled down and her panties are exposed. A young girl also tried to take a picture of a boy’s penis, and the young girls also “twerk” for a security guard to let them through an area.

Reported on Complex, the film is facing legal action in Texas. According to legal documents obtained by the Texas Tribune, a grand jury in Tyler, Texas, indicted the streaming giant for promoting content that “depicts the lewd exhibition of the genitals or pubic area of a clothed or partially clothed child who was younger than 18 years of age at the time the visual material was created, which appeals to the prurient interest in sex.

Netflix responded to the indictment with a statement to the New York Post

Cuties is a social commentary against the sexualization of young children. This charge is without merit and we stand by the film.”
