Last week a clip of a Lil Baby and Meek Mill collab surfaced online and sent fans in a frenzy. The track is reportedly titled “Kobe Bryant,” paying homage to the late NBA star.

The snippet was only brief yet the internet was upset due to a lyric reportedly said by Meek. “And if I ever lack I’m going out with my choppa it be another Kobe / Sh*t I can tell they ain’t never know me,” rapped Meek. Moments later, Lil Baby says, “I damn near wanna have a son so I can name him Kobe.”

Vanessa Bryant, the wife of the late Kobe Bryant, caught wind of the lyrics and responded via her Instagram. “Deer Meek Mill. I find this line to be extremely insensitive and disrespect.” She wrote. “I am not familiar with any of your music, but I believe you can do better than this. If you are a fan, fine, there’s a better way to show your admiration for my husband. This lacks respect.”

Meek Mill explained that he apologized to Vanessa in private, “I apologized to her in private earlier today not to the public…Nothing I say on my page directed to a internet viral moment or the family of a grieving woman! If you care about someone grieving change the subject!”
