George Floyd’s family is getting ready to lay him to rest.
According to reports Floyd will be laid to rest in his hometown of Houston, Texas. The announcement was made by Houston’s mayor, Sylvester Turner. “This is the same city the George Floyd grew up in, and his body will be returning to this city.”
A GoFundMe account was created by Floyd’s brother Philonise to help cover funeral and burial expenses, lodging and travel for all court proceedings, mental and grief counseling, and to assist Floyd’s family as they continue to seek justice for George. The account has reached up to $5 Million.
George Floyd died on May 25th in Minneapolis, while handcuffed after former police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on Floyd’s neck for nearly nine minutes. Earlier today, it was announced that Floyd died of asphyxiation.
