The pandemic had caused the cancellation of many events or shifted them to a virtual celebration. The 2020 BET Awards will be held online this year and it will be hosted by Amanda Seals.
The nominations are out, and Drake takes the lead with six nominations which include best male hip hop artist/video of the year, and two nominations for both best collaboration and viewer’s choice for his features in Chris Brown’s “No Guidance” and Future’s “Life Is Good.”
Next up is Megan Thee Stallion and Roddy Ricch. They both inked five nods each. Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, Lizzo, and DaBaby all have four nominations.
For best new artist, the late Pop Smoke as well as, Summer Walker, Danileigh, Roddy Ricch, Lil Nas X, and YBN Cordae have been nominated for best new artist. Best Movies that are nominated include, Bad Boys for Life, Dolemite, Is My Name, Harriet, Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé, Just Mercy, plus Queen & Slim.
Winners will reportedly be selected by BET’s Voting Academy, made up of fans, plus an “esteemed group of entertainment professionals,” Hollywood Reporter reports.
Performances will be from Alicia Keys, Chloe x Halle, DaBaby, John Legend, Megan Thee Stallion, Roddy Ricch, Lil Wayne, Usher, SiR, and more.
The ceremony this year is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Award show as well as the 40th anniversary of the network. The awards show will be broadcast live on June 28, marking its debut on CBS according to the report. You will also be able to stream it across BET’s different channels.
