As family members and fans of NBA Legend Kobe Bryant are still trying to wrap their heads around his sudden and tragic death, investigators have provided new updates on why the helicopter crashed.

The National Transportation Safety Board’s Jennifer Homendy provided an update from the preliminary information that was collected. “The descent rate for the helicopter was over 2,000 feet a minute, so we know that this was a high energy impact crash. This is a pretty steep descent at high speed. So it wouldn’t be a normal landing speed.”

CNN reports that the helicopter missed the hill by 20 to 30 feet and it crashed about 1,085 feet above sea level.  The preliminary report is slated to be released in 10 days.

On Sunday, (January 26th), Kobe Bryant along with his 13-year-old daughter Gianna “Gigi” Bryant and 7 other passengers were flying to a basketball game when they all died in a helicopter crash.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and loved ones of the victims.
