Rapper YNW Melly has tested positive for COVID-19 while awaiting his trial in the Broward County Jail.

The 20-year-old rapper, and his crew member, Bortlen, are on trial for the 2018 alleged murder of their friends “YNW Sakchaser” Williams and Christopher “YNW Juvy” Thomas Jr. Melly and Bortlen are both facing two counts of first-degree murder. Melly faces the death penalty if convicted.

A post on the rappers Instagram page suggest he got tested for COVID-19 today, April 3. He will also be filing a motion to be released in hopes of proper care.  The post reads, “Melly has tested positive for COVID-19 today while awaiting his trial in Broward County Jail. He’ll be filing a motion for restricted release in hopes of better care due to any jails not being prepared to treat this new virus. He hopes for your support and to recover soon ..”

Brooklyn rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine was released today, amid the Coronavirus outbreak. We’ll have to see if YNW Melly gets the same treatment.
