As cases of the Coronavirus continue to rise in New York City, Bill De Blasio is now enforcing more rules!

According to the Mayor, New Yorkers who break social distancing rules will be faced with a fine that will cost up to $500 dollars.

While De Blasio made it very clear that the fines will be the last resort, he did order police officers to give warnings and to tell people to disperse if they are not following the 6-foot social distancing instruction and are gathered in groups. If people fail to respect the orders of police officers, they can potentially be fined.

“They’re going to give people every chance to listen, and if anyone doesn’t listen, then they deserve a fine at this point… “I don’t want to fine people when so many folks are going through economic distress, but if they haven’t gotten the message by now, and they don’t get the message when an enforcement officer’s staring them in the face … that person then deserves the fine, so we’re going to proceed with that.” – De Blasio
