Changes are being made slowly but surely.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced today (June 12) during his daily briefing that he’s signing four new criminal justice and police reform laws, calling this a “historic” moment for NY.

The four new laws include an end to 50-A, bans chokeholds, “Karen’s law” aka prohibit long false race-based 911 calls, and he made

the attorney general the independent prosecutor in killings of unarmed civilians by police.

Cuomo admits there is still more work to be done, but he wants NY to “lead the way.”

Cuomo also wants to restore the trust between the community and the police. He also issued an executive order making local police departments develop reform plans with “community input” by April 1 or else they won’t be eligible for state funding.

Are you happy with some of the steps being taken for change? More bills are expected to pass in NY so keep your foot on the gas!
