Today, (Feb. 19), is a sad day in Brooklyn, and in New York overall as it is being reported Pop Smoke had been shot and killed in an apparent home invasion in Los Angeles earlier today.

The rapper was finding recent success with hits such as “Dior,” and “Christopher Walking,” which both lived on his his second mixtape Meet the Woo 2 which was released on February 12.

At this moment, he was the leader of a crop of new artists bringing a new sound, and swag to a new generation of New York hip hop.

As people begin to process what really happened, the hip hop community is showing love to the 20-year-old, and paying respect to the recent impact his movement, and music had at such a short time.

Nicki Minaj reacted to the news, “the Bible tells us that jealousy is as cruel as the grave. Unbelievable. Rest In Peace, Pop,” she wrote.
