Our hopes of seeing Harriet Tubman on a $20 Bill may come sooner than we thought!
It was reported that the new bill would get pushed back until after Trump is out of office in 2028, but looks like someone is speeding up the process.
A NY-based designer, 33-year-old Dano Wall is taking matters into his own hands. Back in 2017, Wall created a Harriet Tubman stamp and began stamping $20 bills on his own.
According to a report, Wall used a picture of a younger Tubman, which was “acquired by the Library of Congress and the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American history and Culture in 2017.”
“He applied for and received a grant from the Awesome Foundation, a “global community advancing the interest of awesome in the universe, $1,000 at a time,” in 2018, and has sold more than 600 on Etsy since last October.”
Wall’s goal is to get 5,000 stamps on bills. In the article, he said, “if there are 5,000 people consistently stamping currency, we could get a significant percentage of circulating $20 bills [with the Tubman] stamp, at which point it would be impossible to ignore.”
It’s important to Wall, and many others to have Tubman’s face on the $20 bill for many reasons. It represents a symbolic change and it “indicates exactly what kind of a life we choose to celebrate; what values we, as a country, most hope to emulate. Harriet Tubman’s unparalleled grit, intelligence, and bravery over the course of her long life certainly make her worthy of such an honor.”
