Your average congresswoman probably isn’t rapping Cardi B. lyrics but that’s still not stopping Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made history when she won Democratic primary victory for New York’s 14th Congressional District this year as the youngest woman to do so. The 29-year-old is already shaking things up!
Alexandria took to Twitter and shared some tweets that included Cardi B. lyrics from her song “Best Life,” featuring Chance the Rapper, off her debut album, “Invasion Of Privacy.”
While one can argue that the lyrics she quoted didn’t have profanity and it actually spread a positive message, some people disagree and feel it is “un-congresswoman like” to speak in “that” manner. An online critic told her that she has a “civic duty” to write intelligibly.
Check out her tweet:
I never had a problem showin’ y’all the real me/
Hair when it’s messed up, crib when it’s filthy/
Way-before-the-deal me, work-to-pay-the-bills me/
‘Fore I fixed my teeth, man, those comments used to kill me/
But never did I change, never been ashamed/— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) November 20, 2018
Never did I switch, story stayed the same/
I did this on my own, I made this a lane— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) November 20, 2018
Look at some of the responses:
@iamcardib being quoted by a congressperson that understands the struggle of student loan payments. You running for president when you’re older right?
