D’Angelo: The VERZUZ We Never Knew We Needed

D’Angelo: The VERZUZ We Never Knew We Needed

Last night’s VERZUZ with D’Angelo and friends was the place to be.

For the first time since the friendly music competition started, D’Angelo was the only artist to have a solo VERZUZ. He explained that his “friends” are the viewers and fans who have been rocking out with him for years.

The performance was held at the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem. DJ Scratch warmed the viewers up by playing a plethora of R&B and Hip-Hop classics spanning from the 1970s to the 1990s. As well as current hits.

D’Angelo began the show and he had a couple of things up his sleeve. He opened with a member of his band playing a beautiful trumpet solo.

Other friends of D’Angelo also made an appearance throughout the night. Method Man and Redman hit the stage with D’Angelo and performed “Left and Right” off of the singer’s 1999 sophomore album Voodoo.

The surprise guests didn’t stop there. H.E.R also came and gave viewers a duet they never knew they needed. She performed her hit “Best Part” and then sang Lauryn Hill’s verse on the song “Nothing Even Matters” and D’Angelo joined in.

Before closing out for the night, D’Angelo sang his 2000 instant classic “(Untitled) How Does It Feel” and he stayed fully clothed for the song, unlike his music video in which he was completely naked in.

What were some of your favorite moments from last night’s VERZUZ?
