Dave East’s comments about Lil’ Nas X started a debate about what kind of music should be accepted into the hip hop genre.
Lil’ Nas X has the number one song in the country with his track “Old Town Road,” following controversy whether it belongs on the Country music Billboard charts.
As an MC, Dave East decided to speak out about his dislike of the song, causing backlash within the online community.
This caused the rookie artist to respond during an interview, “I have the No. 1 song in the country. I do not give a f*** about what Dave East is saying.”
It’s all good with the rapper as he responded to the comments by keeping it 100 during an Instagram Live session.
“Then y’all gonna ask the lil n**** about what he think about what I said,” he began. “He ain’t supposed to give a f*** about what I said. I don’t give a f*** about what nobody say. He answered right.”
He then continued by reiterating that he feels that “Old Town Road,” was a bad song.
“That’s a kid, doing his thing man,” he said. “Bad song.”
We will have many more debates like this in the future as MC’s continue to push for more acknowledgement while viral sensations continue to pop up with successful singles.
