On April 17, we lost another hip-hop legend!

Former Bad Boy rapper Black Rob passed away at the age of 51. His official cause of death wasn’t revealed, but the news was confirmed to Hot 97 by family and close friends.

Diddy reportedly helped pay for Black Rob’s funeral, Page Six reports. The publication said Puffy reached out to Black Rob before he passed. “We can confirm that Diddy — who called Rob ‘one of a kind’— reached out to Rob at the hospital before his passing. Diddy offered help for Rob, but in the end, sadly, it was too late.”

The report notes, Diddy will make sure his former artist is laid to rest with “dignity.” The Ciroc CEO made a tribute post on Instagram about Rob as he celebrated the fact he left fans with music that makes people dance. Diddy said,

“Rest in power, King @therealblackrob ! As I listen to your records today, there’s one thing that they all have in common! You have made millions of people all over the world feel good and dance! You are one of a kind! GOD BLESS! Love. You will be truly missed!!!!”

Diddy received backlash for not stepping in sooner when Black Rob was homeless. Before DMX passed, Rob posted a video from a hospital bed and revealed he’s suffering from health issues due to a failing kidney. Rob also said he’s homeless, which sparked a more extensive conversation about why an artist who touched millions is in this situation. On the recent episode of Hot Now, our own TT Torrez, DJ Wallah, and King Louie discuss protecting our legends.

Sleep in paradise Black Rob! We’ll keep you updated when the service takes place.
