The lives of Black women, children, and men are being taken away at an alarming rate.

It’s being reported that Na’kia Crawford, 18, was shot multiple times Sunday (June 14) afternoon in a car in Akron. She was reportedly at a stoplight when a person described as a white male driving a black mustang with tinted windows opened fire, fatally shot her, and then took off. The incident happened in the North Howard and North streets in Akron’s Cascade Valley neighborhood, north of downtown.

Crawford was a recent high school graduate and had planned on attending Central State University in the fall. Mayor Dan Horrigan said,

“Her senseless murder is devastating, not only to her family and friends but to the entire Akron community…I feel that it is essential to say clearly and loudly: Black lives matter. Na’kia Crawford’s life mattered.”

G Herbo took to Instagram to shed light on the story. Since the story hasn’t received news coverage, friends online shared an old picture of Crawford meeting Herb, in hopes that he would share her news and, he did. Under the IG post, he said,

“BEAUTIFUL BABY GIRL YOU COULD HAVE NEVER DONE A THING IN YOUR LIFE TO DESERVE THIS! PRAYERS GO OUT TO YOUR ENTIRE FAMILY #JusticeForNakia SMH WE NEED TO START MAKING SOME DEMANDS FAST.”

Cleveland reports, protesters gathered Monday (June 15) at the scene, and her story online. Just yesterday we reported the tragic story of Oluwatoyin Salau, a 19-year-old protester who was found dead days after Tweeting she had been sexually assaulted.
