Emotions are high, enraged, and tense over the killing of unarmed black man George Floyd while in the hands of Minneapolis police.
Since George Floyd’s unjust murder, there have been protests nationwide to fight social injustice and police brutality. While some protests remained peaceful, other cities had different experiences.
Looting and violent clashes with law enforcement are also happening and George Floyd’s brother is begging for it to stop. NBC reports Terrance Floyd spoke in Minneapolis yesterday (June 1) where his brother’s life was taken away and expressed to the crowd that he is angrier than we are and he’s not wilding out in the streets.
“If I’m not over here wilin’ out, if I’m not over here blowing up stuff, if I’m not over here messing up my community — then what are y’all doing? Nothing, because that’s not going to bring my brother back at all.”
He continued,
“So let’s do this another way. Let’s stop thinking that our voices don’t matter and vote…because it’s a lot of us and we still going to do this peacefully.”
During the emotional plea, Terrance told the crowd that his brother was about peace. He also got on his knee, started crying, and praying. Then he led the crowd in a series of chants, saying “Peace on the left, justice on the right.”
The crowd also reminded everyone that although one ex-cop, Derrick Chauvin was arrested, all three deserved to be prosecuted.
True justice needs to be served.
