Burna Boy Will Be At Summer Jam!
Are y’all ready to get a taste of Nigeria at Summer Jam this year? Well you should, because Burna Boy will be performing live at the hottest concert of the Summer!
Burna Boy was born Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu on July 2nd, 1991, in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. From an early age, it seem like Ogulu knew that he was destined to be in the music industry. As a child, he began making his own beats and studied Media Technology at the University of Sussex.
In 2012, Ogulu released his debut album
under his artist name Burna Boy while signed to Aristokrat Records. The album would sell 40,000 copies on the first day of its release and land in the number 7 spot on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart. He would later release a follow-up mixtape named
Although sales for his first album were good, Burna left his record label in 2014 and started his own record label in 2015 called Spaceship Entertainment where he dropped his second album
On a Spaceship.
From 2016 to 2019, he would go on to release multiple albums and singles including “On The Low”, and “Ye”. However, 2019 seemed to be a big year for the artist.
It was the year where he won multiple awards at the Soundcity MVP Awards Festival,
Best International Act at the BET Awards
, he was announced as a performer at Coachella, and his song, “Ja Ara E” was featured on Beyonce’s
The Lion King: The Gift.
Things continue to get better for Burna Boy! The singer became the first Afrobeat artist to sell out the SSE Arena in London and received a special award to commemorate the achievement.
Burna Boy released his fifth studio album
in 2020 and it features the songs such as,
“(Level Up) Twice As Tall”, “Way Too Big”, ‘Real Life”
featuring Stormzy, and
“Bank On It.”
This album would earn him a
Grammy for Best Global Music Album
In 2022 - Burna Boy performed at New York’s Madison Square Garden for the first time, as a multimedia experience that was also live-streamed on YouTube.
