There’s no question about it, Serena Williams is one of the greatest tennis players of all time. Today, we celebrate her 37th birthday and her accomplishments on and off the tennis court.
Take a look at the list below.
1. Serena Williams gives back to the community. She is a Unicef Goodwill Ambassador, she has built a secondary school in Kenya and she supports other organizations like Big Brothers, Big Sisters.
2. She stands for female empowerment and equality. Williams has been a strong voice for women of color and the pay wage gap. In a personal letter published by Fortune, Williams stated, “the pay wage gap hits women of color the hardest.”
3. She has 39 Grand Slam titles and is ranked No. 1 in the world.
4. She stands up for herself and others. When she lost to Naomi Osaka in the US Open Finals, she stood her ground to the umpire after he claimed that she was cheating and she stood up for Osaka after the crowd boo’d her. See video below.
