Today is a special day! On June 19th, we recognize Juneteenth. On this day in 1865, enslaved African Americans were informed of their freedom by Union troops in Texas. This came two years after the Emancipation of Proclamation was signed. Although Juneteenth is not recognized as a national holiday yet, we still widely celebrate the day.

Hit ABC TV show ‘Black-Ish’ premiered a special episode acknowledging our holiday.
