Hip hop is the number one genre in the world, so we can expect talent to come from a variety of places!

The genera was birthed in The Bronx, NY and the BX is known as the “Mecca of Hip Hop.” Cities like LA, Philly, Texas, and Atlanta have some extraordinary artists come from those cities like Tupac, Nipsey Hussle, Meek Mill, and Megan Thee Stallion.

Is North Carolina next on the list for amazing talent? Our very own Ebro made a statement on Twitter and mentioned that NC is having the best year in hip hop.

1. Rapsody is gaining a lot of recognition as of lately. She is the go-to EMCEE if you want real bars and dope flows. She recently dropped her album Eve, which is a celebration of black women and culture. She recently sat with our very own TT Torrez and went in-depth about the meaning of her album, take a look:

2. Cole & Dreamville is taking over the music scene with bubbling artists like J.I.D, Ari Lennox, Bas, & more! Although technically J.Cole was born in Germany, he was raised in NC since he was eight months old, just a side note.

3. YBN Cordae has been making a lot of noise with his freestyles and music. He made the 2019 XXL Freshman list and he dropped his debut album, The Lost Boy. Take a listen:

4. DaBaby is certainly taking over the airwaves with his hot single “Suge.” The song is off his official debut LP, Baby On Baby, which reached No. 14 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and “Suge” landed on the hot 100 charts. DaBaby also made the XXL Freshman Class list.

5. Little Brother, The hip hop duo from Durham, North Carolina that consists of rappers Phonte and Big Pooh. This month they dropped their first new album in nine years, May The Lord Watch.
