On Sunday (Jan 28), much of the hip hop community stood around to see if Jay-z will add to his Grammys collection at the show.

While he came out the building with no awards, his album 4:44 is still critically acclaimed as one of the best pieces of music he made in his career, while also giving his listeners important lessons on finance, how to deal with relationships and more.

One person, DJ Scratch had a theory behind the reason he did not win. Was it too smart? Did he give away too many secrets?

See his theory below.

In my opinion, last nights snub only proved how powerful Jay-Z has become. He’s won 21 Grammys but this is the first time in history an Artist went Platinum on his own platform (Tidal). No other digital platform (iTunes, Spotify, Amazon) could sell “4:44” until he gave the green light. He talked about financial freedom in 4:44 but also proved it by selling 4:44 on his own platform. This is a serious threat to the music industry because if he wakes up a generation of Artists to become independent, the record labels will literally die. Mr Carter was a Businessman, but now he has become an Institution. Congratulations to the Carters, continue to merrily merrily eat off those streams.
