Ja Rule wants you to know that he is one of the most influential artists of all time.

While the world was focused on Kanye West’s tweet storm, the Queens native decided to sneak a little comment in that draws quite a bit of debate.

The rapper claimed that he is “one of the most influential rappers of all time.”

Let’s take a look. If you look at numbers, it could be argued he was the biggest hip hop artist during the first half of his career.

His debut, Venni Vetti Vecci was successful and gave birth the 1999 summer anthem “Holla, Holla.” It was Rule 3:36 where he went off into another stratosphere using a mix of rap and r&b, with even himself singing on the hook at times. The project included smash hits such as “Between Me And You,” the classic, “Put It On Me” which still receives a pop everytime it is played at the club, and “I Cry.”

This mix between hip hop and r&b was a winning formula that many artists used following those years, yes even including 50 Cent after clowning him for using that style. While not created by him, it was a style that was used by many hip hop artists after, and helped bring the genre to another stratosphere in the pop world.

So how do you feel about his statements? Do you agree?
