Over the weekend, Roc Nation label debuted the first of its kind “Set the Bar” cypher session. The video content package includes exclusive freestyle verses from the label’s emerging star roster: HDBeenDope, Reuben Vincent, Huey V, KUR, and Rapsody. The cypher, captured on the rooftop of Roc Nation headquarters overlooking the Manhattan skyline, features official host Jadakiss and legendary DJ Young Guru.
Rapsody shared in a statement, “The inaugural Roc/Planes was special, and I say inaugural because this is something I hope will continue year after year as we celebrate and welcome new Roc family. When you see the Roc you will connect it with community. That’s what Hip Hop is and what we represent. Bridges from the seasoned to the new sprouts, we all will shine light on each other. And of course, we just had a great time on the roof! Felt like a little cookout with raps and no BBQ.”
The cypher session’s merging of hip hop power players with today’s freshest faces set to change the rap game serves as a symbolic passing of the torch from one musical generation to the next. Each freestyle is woven together over a signature beat from Jay-Z, bringing hip hop’s next class of rappers full circle with the legacy of the genre’s biggest icons.
