Janelle Monae Set to Premiere Short Film ‘Dirty Computer: An Emotion Picture’

Upon the release of Janelle Monae’s powerful single PYNK, her new album will be accompanied by a short dystopian film called “Dirty Computer: An Emotion Picture.” PYNK premiered on April 10th celebrating empowerment and sexuality. The video immediately became the topic of conversation as fans praised Monae and guest star Tessa Thompson. Although the visuals are filled with vagina imagery, Thompson and Monae acknowledges that there are women without that anatomy.

Her new album Dirty Computer debuts April 27, in addition Monae will be premiering a 44 minute sci-film to go along with it. Dirty Computer: An Emotion Picture “tells a near-future story about a citizen who finds love and danger in a totalitarian society.”
 

The Kansas City native tells Billboard: “She’s an outlaw because she’s being herself. Overall, I want to reflect what’s happening in the streets right now and what might happen tomorrow if we don’t band together and fight for love.” The film will premiere on BET on April 27th.
