The Halftime Show during Superbowl XVIII will always be a memorable one known for one word “nipplegate.”

That day in 2004, Janet Jackson brought out Justin Timberlake in a performance that is still be talked about 14 years later as her bare breast was shown on national television.

Following the response of the incident, Timberlake was blamed for not having Jackson’s back as she received major backlash from sponsors, networks, and the FCC.

Two weeks before performing at the halftime show once again, the singer sat down with Beats 1’s own Zane Lowe and opened up about the situation.

“I stumbled through it,” he said. “To be quite honest, I had my wires crossed. It’s just something that you have to look back on and go, ‘OK, you can’t change what’s happened, but you can move forward and learn from it.’”

As for he and Jackson’s relationship the two have “made peace” since the incident.

“Absolutely,” he replied. “I don’t know that a lot of people know that. “I don’t think it’s my job to [discuss behind-the-scenes conversations] because you value the relationships that you do have with people.”

His performance at the Pepsi Halftime show will occur on February 2nd.
