The minutes were winding down to the final minutes of New Years when Mariah Carey hit the stage in the middle of Times Square.
Live on ABC’s Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve with Ryan Seacrest, Carey hit the stage and as her tracks played she looked confused, talked over the track, sort of tried to lip sync as the track played in te background, as she claimed “we can’t hear.”
It began with her version of the New Years classic “Auld Lang Syne” before her hit “Emotions” just began playing.
According to Billboard:
The singer had suffered from a tight and difficult rehearsal schedule earlier in the night was unable to hear through her in-ear monitor, according to a source.
The source told Billboard, “She didn’t have the kind of time that she usually gets for her ‘Mariah-ness.’”
It was one of the most odd performances you will ever see.
