Sometimes when artists are on the rise, some people will pick out anything negative thing from their past.
That’s the situation with Mulatto.
The 21-year-old rapper was in hot water for identifying as black but allegedly in the past saying she doesn’t like to call herself Black or White and uses her stage name, Mulatto. By definition, the word describes someone who is the offspring of one white parent and one Black parent. Historically, the term is offensive. The New York Times wrote an article back in 2017 about cringe-worthy racial terms. David Nozick said he can’t stand the term and views it as saying “negro” or “colored.” However, some online users feel she is “taking power back in the word,” similar to the “N” word.

Looks like Mulatto and her team is taking the criticism into consideration. During an interview with Hip Hop DX, she’s thinking about changing her name in the future. She admitted that she has thought about changing her name but she “can’t say too much” because she working on something right now.
“I would be lying to say it hasn’t crossed my mind before. It is a controversy that I hear and see every day as far as my name goes, so I would be lying to say no I never thought of that. But I can’t say too much right now, because it’s going to be a part of something bigger.” The Queen of Da Souf always has a trick up her sleeve, hence why her rap nickname is Big Latto. There’s a possibility she may change it to that but it’s not set in stone as of yet.
