Although the world is facing a global pandemic, celebrities are coming together through the power of music. Since we’ve been practicing social distancing, artists, DJs, and other entertainers are interacting with their fans more on their platforms like Facebook and Instagram Live.

Last night, (March 29), Ne-Yo asked his IG followers via story if they wanted to see him battle fellow songwriter, Johntá Austin. Johntà responded in a Tweet and said,

“Y’all requested. My brother & I will oblige. Great night ahead!”

Then Johntà Tweeted out the ground rules, which include, showing up sober, 25 released songs each in any genre, and a maximum of one minute and 30 seconds per song.

During the hour-long session, Ne-Yo played hits like Rihanna “Unfaithful,” Beyoncè “Irreplaceable,” Mario “Let Me Love You,” as well as his joints like “She Got Her Own,” ft. Jamie Fox and Fabulous, “Make Me Better,” ft. Fabolous, Jeezy “Leave You Alone,” and others.

Johntà played old school classics Aaliyah “Come Over,” “Miss You,” Toni Braxton “Just Be A Man About It,” Mary J. Blige “Be Without You,” Mariah Carey “We Belong Together,” and more.

During the Live, the two songwriters vibed to each other’s music, fans chimed in and said it was a tie. Toward the end, Johntà called it a “moment for the culture.” They both thanked Timbaland and Swizz Beatz, who started the movement of the battles.
