Netflix Has Canceled Marvel’s Luke Cage

Luke Cage

Netflix just pulled the plug on another show, this time, Luke Cage. The show aired its second season earlier this summer. This announcement from Netflix comes just a week after it announced that Iron Fist wouldn’t return for a third season.

There seem to be multiple reasons for why the show is cancelled, but Deadline, the outlet that broke the story, expresses that it was a combination of rising tensions from creative differences and budget.

“In another sense, the cancellation was a done deal as the situation became tense on the corporate level. The Marvel shows on Netflix are costly to make, even with New York’s generous tax credits,” reads the article.

For Iron Fist, Deadline speculated that the series might continue over to Disney’s forthcoming streaming service, but for Luke Cage, this seems like a definitive end for the show as of now.

Marvel released a statement about the matter: “Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is grateful to the dedicated showrunner, writers, cast and crew who brought Harlem’s Hero to life for the past two seasons, and to all the fans who have supported the series.”
