While Trump is focused on getting $5 billion to build a wall that separates the U.S. and Mexican border, lawmakers in Albany are making life easier for immigrants!

The NYDN reports that New York college students whose parents are undocumented will soon be eligible to receive state financial aid. Democrats were trying to get the Dream act passed for years but since the Republicans controlled the Senate, they weren’t able to.

Now that the Democrats have control of it, the bill was passed on Wednesday (Jan. 23). Before the act was passed, one of the speakers said during an announcement, “While the administration in Washington is committed to putting up walls, the New York State Assembly is committed to breaking them down.”

This is a HUGE breakthrough for aspiring college students who aren’t American citizens. Now that the Democrats have control of both houses of the state Legislature, the Dream Act is just the beginning of pro-immigration reforms that they are planning. The next order of business is getting driver’s licenses for undocumented immigrants.
