Pharrell Williams is opening up about the 2005 track he co-wrote for Gwen Stafani, “Hollaback Girl.”

He appeared on Naomi Campbell’s YouTube show, ‘No Filter with Naomi,’ and told her how she inspired the track. Pharrell says he was inspired to create the song after overhearing Naomi’s phone conversation. Pharrell said,

“You told somebody who was like trying to speak to you or whatever you were like, ‘I’m sorry, I have a name like I’m not no hollaback girl’ and I thought that was so amazing and that ended up being the chorus to ‘Hollaback Girl’.”

The supermodel was stunned by the revelation and jokingly said, “I don’t know who I was talking to, I guess they deserved it.” Take a look:

“Hollaback Girl” topped the Billboard Hot 100 charts within six weeks of its release.
