Pop Smoke is heading to the movie screen!
The rapper will make his posthumous acting debut in an upcoming film called Boogie.
Deadline reports the movie is a “coming-of-age” story. The plot is about a man named Alfred “Boogie” Chin who lives in Queens, New York, and is passionate about basketball. Boogie has big dreams of one day playing in the NBA but his parents want him to focus on getting a scholarship to an elite college. Boogie’s challenge is having to find a way to navigate “a new girlfriend, high school, on-court rivals and the burden of expectation”, the article reports.
It’s not clear what role Pop Smoke will play, but other actors include, Taylor Takahashi, Taylour Paige, Pamelyn Chee, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Alexa Mareka, Mike Moh, and Perry Yung.
Eddie Huang is the director of the movie, and he is making his directorial debut. He also wrote the screenplay for Boogie. The producers are Josh Bratman of Immersive Pictures, Josh McLaughlin of Wink Productions, and Michael Tadross, Deadline reports. Rafael Martinez is the executive producer.
Boogie will be out on March 5, 2021.
