The festivities at SXSW was put on hold after a shooting that left at least one person injured. According to police, shots were fired Saturday night near the corner of Sixth Street and San Jacinto.
Although the shooting did not take place in the actual SXSW event, witnesses recall the moments of the incident according to Deadline. Festival-goer Matthew Carey stated, “There was a loud pop that I heard. There was a pause of a second or two, then the people in the crowd started shouting ‘a shooting’ and everybody started running.”
The Austin Police Department shared that they are still investigating the shooting after paramedics tended to one person with a gunshot wound and police took one person into custody. See post below.
#AustinPD is working a shooting call in the 300 block of E. 6th St. One person will be transported to the hospital. Individuals have been detained, but still searching for others that may have been involved. Please avoid the area as the investigation continues.
