On Monday (March 6), a pregnant woman was shot and killed while trying to rob someone in Belmont Cragin on the Northwest Side of Chicago, according to police.

According to CBS Chicago, family and close friends identified the victim as 21-year-old Genesis Escobar. Police said that the incident happened around 1 p.m. local time. Escobar reportedly saw people sitting in a car when she entered their vehicle near the 5200 block of West Montana Street at Laramie Avenue and attempted to rob them. The passengers, who were lucky enough to defend themselves, shot her in the shoulder, back and hand.

A video reportedly shows Escobar being thrown into the intersection before people came to her rescue. The young woman was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. A friend of Escobar told CBS Chicago that she was seven months pregnant with her first child.
