His was on the verge being bigger than he had ever been. . Christopher Rios best known to the hip hop world as Big Pun passed away tragically on February 7, 2000 at the age of 28.
Following up his successful debut album Capitol Punishment, he was preparing for the very important sophomore album. The run began with the remix of Jennifer Lopez’s single “Feelin So Good.”
At this point, Pun was known as one of the best lyricists in the game with his skill standing out on tracks such as “Twinz,” John Blaze” and Banned from T.V.”
As the new millennium turned, it was time to continue his rise in the rap game with his second album.
Unfortionately, he never got to see that next step in his career. At 3:53 p.m. he was pronounced dead at White Plains Hospital.
The cause of death was a massive heart attack and respiratory failure after his weight ballooned to almost 700 pounds.
While his passing left a void in the hip hop, and nuyorican communities, his sophomore album Yeeeah Baby was released April 4, 2000.
It sold 179,000 copies the first week, and includes two of the biggest commercial hits of his career in “It’s So Hard,” and Puerto Rican anthem “100{bd483ef8fff97925ca6b414cc7e3849cff36102afd5e6d9b16bc5c438af6ada1}.”
Pun is currently considered one of the best rappers of all time with his unique lyricism and flow.
