RIP: Remembering Chinx 5 Years After His Passing

Chinx

5 years ago today (May 17), the hip hop world was shocked by the news that Queens native Chinx was shot and killed in his car as it sat at Queens Boulevard and 84th Drive in New York City.

At the time of his tragic passing, Chinx was preparing to take the next step in his career as he stood beside French Montana. This was noticed as one year before his passing Chinx stepped onto the Summer Jam Festival Stage.

At the time of his passing, he was preparing the release of his first solo album Welcome To JFK, following successful mixtape releases of Cocaine Riot’s 4 & 5 in 2014.

Three months later on August 14, 2015, the hip hop world was able to celebrate the life and music of Chinx with the posthumous release of his debut album, lead by the single “On Your Body” featuring Meet Sims. The project reached #2 on the Billboard rap charts at the time.

On this day, we remember Chinx, with some of his past features on Hot 97.
