Ryan Coogler speaks out after he was mistakenly detained by ATL police at a bank.

Reports claim that the Black Panther director, Ryan Coogler, revealed that he was mistaken for a bank robber in Atlanta. Coogler stated that the incident took place in January when he was at a Bank of America trying to make a transaction. Reports stated that he was wearing a facemask, sunglasses, and hat when he handed the teller a withdrawal slip. The slip read, “I would like to withdraw $12,000 cash from my checking account. Please do the money count somewhere else. I’d like to be discreet.”

The teller misinterpreted the message and ended up calling the police as advised by management. After reports of the incident leaked to the public, Coogler released a statement stating, “this situation should never have happened. However, Bank of America worked with me and addressed it to my satisfaction and we have moved on.”

A spokesperson of the bank released a statement, “We deeply regret that this incident occurred. It never should have happened and we have apologized to Mr. Coogler.”
