A new rendition of Bob Marley and The Wailer's single, "Stir It Up," which was first released in 1973, has been created and it features Ghanian rapper Sarkodie.

The song was released on all streaming platforms today (Jan. 20) and it is already No. 1 on iTunes Ghana Top Songs.

"'Stir It Up' music video OUT NOW!! This right here means everything to me," the "Can't Let You Go" hitmaker captioned a clip of the new music video on Instagram. "From when the call came through that I’m getting the opportunity to remake this classic, to receiving the legend’s original raw vocals, then shooting the video. It still feels unreal. I don’t need to say much what @bobmarley's music means to us (Africans especially). Growing up listening to the gong and laying my vocals next to him is such a blessing/honor!! Big shouts to @jaykjs, @islandrecordsuk… @possigee engineering and @mogbeatz reproducing this masterpiece."

In a recent interview on Amazon Music's "+44 Podcast," Sarkodie revealed that he almost passed up the opportunity to remake the late singer's classic hit. “When I had the email, I almost passed it on and not just out of respect, I felt that I was not worthy to lay my vocals next to the legend. I was really hard on myself,” he said.

“My manager was like, 'This is a big opportunity.' But, the artist side of me was thinking more about the art and not the opportunity,” the 37-year-old rapper continued. “When I was listening to [Bob Marley’s vocals], it was a very spiritual moment."

"Stir It Up" was the first single that Bob Marley wrote that became successful outside of his hometown Jamaica. It was originally composed by the legend in 1967 and later covered by American singer, Johnny Nash, on his 1972 album I Can See Clearly Now.

Sarkodie, who made history as the first winner of Best International Flow at the 2019 BET Hip Hop Awards, released his eighth studio album almost three months ago. The 10-track project features King Promise, Oxlade, Ink Boy, Lojay, Kranium, Cina Soul, Joeboy, Black Sherif, and BNXN fka Buju.
