Yes, it’s true!
According to CNN a bill proposed in the New York State Senate wants to ban pedestrians from using portable electronics while crossing the street.
This ban would include browsing the net, texting, and checking emails, however, in terms of an emergency, you might get a pass.
Fines are said to vary from $25-$250.
State Senator John Liu introduced this to the Senate last week with a statement to CNN saying:
“It’s hard not to notice the number of people texting while walking, and downright alarming to see people continuing their texting while crossing the street…”We want New Yorkers to know it’s OK to wait the 5 seconds.”
