A verdict has finally been reached after about seven hours of deliberations across two days, about a trial that lasted for almost two weeks. A Los Angeles jury on Friday (Dec. 23) found Tory Lanez guilty on all three felony counts in the Megan Thee Stallion shooting case.
The “LUV” hitmaker was charged with assault with a semiautomatic handgun, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. He faces more than 20 years in prison and could be deported. Following the verdict, Tory Lanez was taken into custody and he will await sentencing that was scheduled for Jan. 27.
According to The New York Times, Megan Thee Stallion was not in the courtroom at the time. Tory Lanez appeared to look motionless and stared straight ahead as the verdict was being read. The “Savage” rapper’s lawyer Alex Spiro released a statement saying, “The jury got it right. I am thankful there is justice for Meg.”
The Canadian rapper’s family reportedly had an outburst in the courtroom after the verdict was read. “A crazy and downright scary scene in the courtroom as his father and stepmother screamed about wicked injustice,” Journalist Meghann Cuniff tweeted.
“Tory Lanez’s father stood up and screamed ‘This is a wicked system!’ He screamed at the prosecutors that they are evil and they know exactly what they did here. His stepmother stood up screaming and yelling. Father was yelling about ‘Roc Nation,’” she continued to explain.
