R. Kelly did not appear in court today.
According to NBC, the “accused sex trafficker refused transportation from his federal jail cell to state court, prosecutors said.
Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Jennifer Gonzalez said that the Sheriffs were scheduled to bring him to court.
“As I understand it, he refused transport and so that is why the defendant is not before your honor today,” Gonzales said in the report.
When Judge Lawrence Flood questioned why Kelly wasn’t in court, defense lawyer Steve Greenberg lawyer said that the prosecutor’s claim isn’t true. However, he wouldn’t go into further detail.
“I don’t want to discuss matters that I discussed with the U.S. Marshals Service in open court,” Greenberg said. “Suffice it to say, the Marshal Service says that moving Mr. Kelly is a large undertaking.”
Another source says that Kelly’s next hearing is on September 17 and the judge said the singer must be there.
