Update: YNW Melly Says He’s Dying From COVID-19 + Begs For Early Release

Following testing positive for COVID-19, YNW Melly says he’s dying from the virus.

According to Melly’s lawyer, Bradford Cohen, Melly is experiencing symptoms including severe chills, heavy breathing, headaches, and body aches since he tested positive for the virus. Cohen has filed an emergency motion for restricted release.

Cohen reveals that Melly weighs 114 pounds, he claims Melly has not been monitored by medical personnel every hour, and that he is in a cell with with another inmate who also has COVID-19.

Cohen believes there’s a lack of preparedness by the jail for this type of pandemic, “they have not given them masks, or cleaning supplies that would be beneficial regarding his recovery. This is against all recommendations of the Surgeon General and CDC.”

According to TMZ, Melly is asking the judge if he can get out of prison and be placed on house arrest and treated at a medical facility at his own expense.

The 20-year-old rapper, and his crew member, Bortlen, are on trial for the 2018 alleged murder of their friends “YNW Sakchaser” Williams and Christopher “YNW Juvy” Thomas Jr. Melly and Bortlen are both facing two counts of first-degree murder. Melly faces the death penalty if convicted.
